Streaming mode & battery life

Every camera on your wall is set to one of two modes. LIVE holds a continuous stream; AUTO lets Ring conserve power between events. On a battery camera the difference is hours of battery life, so it’s worth a minute to get right.

⚡ LIVE

A continuous live stream, held open for as long as the camera is on your wall. Smoothest picture, and the closest thing to real time. On a battery camera it drains the battery fast.

Best for: Wired cameras — Pro, Power Pro, Plug-in.

🍃 AUTO

Feeds stay close to live, but Ring is allowed to pause the camera’s radio between events instead of streaming non-stop — which is what protects the battery.

Best for: Battery and solar cameras.

Open Settings → Cameras on the TV.

In Video Wall, open Settings from the left sidebar, then select Cameras. Each row has a mode badge showing what that camera is set to right now.

Select the badge to switch modes.

Move to the LIVE / AUTO badge on the camera’s row and press Select. It toggles between the two, and takes effect on the wall immediately — here Garage Camera has been switched to AUTO:
Mode is per camera, so you can leave wired cameras on LIVE and put only the battery ones on AUTO. It’s also per TV — setting it here doesn’t change your other walls.

In the web app: Same per-camera Live / Auto / Off in the web app — Settings → Cameras.

Tile frozen on “Resume”? That’s AUTO doing its job — Ring ended live view on that camera to save power, so the tile holds the last frame until you wake it. Press Select on the tile, or see camera not loading for the other reasons a tile might not be streaming.
