On Apple TV: a ring opens the doorbell
Video Wall for Apple TV 2.5.1 is on its way. It reaches your Apple TV through the App Store as soon as Apple finishes its review, and with automatic updates on there’s nothing to do. This one is about the front door: when someone rings, the TV shows you who it is.
A ring opens the doorbell
While Video Wall is on screen, a doorbell ring opens that doorbell full screen, usually within 10 seconds. It doesn’t matter where you are in the app: the wall, another camera, or Settings. If you’ve turned on Camera sound in full screen, you hear the door too.
It’s on by default. To turn it off, go to Settings → Display → Doorbell ring opens the camera.
Over a film, too
If a camera is floating in Picture in Picture over something else, a ring switches that window to the doorbell. Keep the driveway in the corner during the game, and the door takes its place when someone’s there.
One limit, and it’s Apple’s: when Video Wall is closed and no camera is floating, a ring can’t reach it, because Apple TV pauses apps that aren’t on screen. How the doorbell pop-up works.
Fixed
- Sound on the highlighted camera now follows you across the wall. Before, it could go quiet after the first camera and stay quiet until you reopened the app.
- Background sound now plays under the wall the way it should.
- On bigger walls, the clock shows its minutes again instead of cutting them off, and the weather keeps its bottom line.
These are Apple TV features for now. The update is free for everyone on a trial or plan.
